[ Watching over the teens in a hellish ride. BUT ALSO KAZUKI!!!! Peers.. curiously at the item in hand, with question hanging on their tongue, but they swallow it and peer back at him. ]
..Even as someone that's gone on two of them, you still never really feel prepared. Each one.. really has a way of taking you off guard.
[ Feeling blind. Not sure what to expect. But they know he's going through it different than them. As someone that was on the other side to now being on this one. They grow quiet, staring at that item before blinking up and freezing at sight of that reached out hand. There's a small pause as they blink before... ah. Right.
No... definitely not. They're very strong-willed. [ a warm, quiet smile ] I like them.
[ just plucks some of the grass off, fingertips light, careful with surgeon's precision that only wavers on the last one, a shaky twitch of his fingers before he flicks the last bit away. he looks at them, eyes going a little somber. ]
We were at least a little prepared, for some of them. Some adventures were spontaneous, but others had briefings... we knew a little bit about them before we went in.
[ A nod. From what Siffrin can tell, Artemy does give a strong guardian vibe... so that makes sense.
Their eye closes a little at the brush, shivering just a bit, but doesn't seem to mind the touch. If they lean a little into it, no they didn't. Though they do at least look sheepish, looking briefly down as the last bit is flicked away. One day they'll stop being so damned touchstarved. ]
..Briefings? So some of them you knew were going to happen?
[ when you are both actually so touch starved. if they leaned into his hand, artemy doesn't change how he keeps his touch light, but his eyes quiet, maybe even a little understanding. ]
... A bit. For some of them... we were able to inform them on what our general goal was, what we might have to look out for, even. But missions will occasionally deviate, change...
[ he pulls his hand back slowly, hesitates mid-way before it settles on the edge of the bed. ]
People still were hurt, and the ones where people did up and disappear out of nowhere... it put everyone on edge.
[ It's easy to notice, from the slight lean, but they definitely don't ask or request for anything more or else. ]
..Change without your knowing.
[ When that hand is pulled away, they stay where they are, unmoving, until their shoulders droop a little. ]
... [ There's a nod before.. ] ..Whatever did happen, just.. know it wasn't your fault. You did the best you could've in that situation. They were lucky to have someone like you around.
[ his eyes soften ever so slightly at that, and for a moment, artemy
looks uncertain of whether that's completely true. his lips thin, a fine
line as he draws his good leg towards his body, shoulders beginning to
string themselves into tension, eyes darting downwards. he debates
something, and then, softer: ]
Dying never really gets easier... no matter how many times you do it... but
that was...
[ his fingers tighten a bit more. he has to calm himself down - he's
usually very calm, but he can't shake it, the mounting panic that comes in
waves ever since he's returned. a breath, slow, out first. ]
It was a little more than I am used to this time around.
[ As those words come, something gleams a little in their eye. Understanding. Familiarity. ..Exhaustion, tiredness. It shows in their ever constant eyebags under their eye, a flicker of expressions when nobody is looking where they look promptly tired. ]
..I think, it's better to never get used to it. It.. shows how human you are. How strong your will and mind is. To keep going.
[ A sign your sanity hasn't started to destroy itself. Unlike them, where they've long since gotten used to the sensation. Another death was forgotten in a blink of an eye or as something as trivial as waking up and going to bed. None of which they say out loud.
Catching sight of that slow breath, they come closer before pausing and bringing their hand against their own chest. ]
..Take a breath with me? [ A gentle pat against their own chest, motioning with their hand. Ready? A deep breath in... and out. Taking as much needed until they can see some kind of sign of that tension loosing itself again. ]
... It is. No matter how much is taken away or removed from you...
[ his brow raises at that. how strong your will and mind is causes some sort of recognition in his own eyes as he looks at them. there's a moment that siffrin comes closer where he doesn't pull away or flinch, just has a faint twitch in his brow. it's so small, and so sudden, like the singular word, the silent question of you?
the motion is followed, lightly lightly over the center of his chest. the bow-string tautness, a thread between tooth and needle, cut with silver scissors. a breath in, a beat to hold it, a breath out. there isn't time to breathe back home, there wasn't time to breathe aboard the ship, but he's managed it all the same. part of him eats at himself - you are better than this it says, and he can't help but ask himself better than what?
the breath leaving him trembles only slightly towards the tail end, a faint flicker of a tip of tall grass. ]
[ No matter how much is taken away or removed from you... words that resonate with their time before. With the adventures they found themselves in but. There's a moment of pause, watching the man's reaction, the way he perceives them. The smallest raise of a brow but with no other words. It rings almost a bit familiar.
Siffrin watches the way he breathes in, and he matches with him, taking in those breaths alongside. Just as they have guided a certain preteen from home, with any of their friends, and a few in Heaven. And if it helps for even a little bit, as much as it normally helps themselves-
a small laugh leaves them, quiet at his words. Lowering their hand, as they peer up at him with a tilt of their head. ]
I wouldn't say wise. It's just.. something I do. To calm down. It helps me so, I use it to help other people, too.

Not the babysitting job one expects.
