The way it works is - You choose a leaf, to represent yourself. You breathe your wish into it... To make a link between you and whatever you're wishing to. A link.. to the Universe, I think. [ ... ] You repeat your wish three times... though six could work. Or seven, or thirteen. It's about whatever number feels right. [ Three is what feels right to them. ] And then.. you fold the wish into the leaf, to tether the link between you and the wish.
